Holi

The play was once a feature film, directed by Ketan Mehta, which featured Aamir Khan and Aashutosh Govarikar. The play has adopted its script in the contemporary form and has been directed by Shri Ajay Athaley.

The story revolves around teenagers who reside in a college hostel. It all starts with the principal refusing to approve a holiday on the festival of holi, and in order to express their anger on this decision, the bunch decides to protest. During the course of these events, the character of Ranjit unfolds, who is lonely and has no parents. Another boy among them, Anand, is always teased for his effeminate behaviour. During protests, he reveals the names of the bunch except for his roommate, Shrivastav. But Shrivastav demands a lot of money in order to keep this as a secret, which he ultimately does not arrange. Shrivastav reveals the secret, and Anand is humiliated in public by wrapping sari around him and locking him in a room. The play reaches its end when Anand commits suicide in his room.

The deeper issues of the confused youth, who have many questions in their heads, but do not get the answers have been dealt with, in this play. During the play, there are instances where they discuss religion, culture and other issues which interest them, but usually deviate to less important ones, including spotting the most happening girl in the college. The play puts into use Bertolt Brecht's theory of alienation and beatifully portrays the deeper meaning and lack of direction among the young men and women in the country.
