Bundeli play adds humour to National Drama Festival
Amongst the heavy applause and overwhelming crowd, Nat Bundele, Bhopal staged 'Bhawadajjukam' directed by Alaknandan. It is basically a sanskrit play which was translated into Bundeli.
The folk theme of the play makes it overwhelmingly humourous. The play revolves around a Guru and his student -Shandilya. He teaches his student the art f tolerance and meanwhile gets stuck with a beautiful princess Vasant Sene, upon whom he develops interest. But his guru is rigid on his rules and does not let him interact with her.
Meanwhile the Yamraj, the god of death, sends his messenger to take Vasant Sene's soul as it is time for her to die. They do it and she dies, but upon numerous requests by his student, he tries bringing her soul back, but ends up sending his soul into her body. Now she starts behaving like the saint guru.
But the Yamraj realises, they had the wrong soul with them, so they try sending it back, but they realise what has happened and instead tranfer her soul into the saint guru. Now both of these start behaving like their respective souls which leads to a lot of chaos. But later the messenger corrects everything and then things are back to normal.
The play has excellent design and beautiful acting performances by many. The bundeli dialect created a lot of interest among the audience who was glued to its seats till the very end. There was no moment without laughters and smiles.
